Measure the cut as well as the check
For a polo or button shirt, compare the seller’s flat chest width, shoulder width, body length and sleeve length with a piece you wear. Check whether a shirt has a full button front or only a short polo placket. For the all-over beige check shorts versus the cream shorts with check side panels, ask for relaxed waist, stretched waist if elastic, rise and inseam. The motif does not tell you how high or loose the shorts will sit.

Choose a polo for its short placket or a full-button shirt if you want the front to open completely. Compare the pictured collar, check placement and flat chest, shoulder and length measurements. A T-shirt has a different neckline and may layer differently under a jacket.
How should I choose shorts with an elastic waist?
Ask for the waist measured flat and relaxed, the comfortable stretched waist, rise and inseam. Compare these with a pair you own. The number printed as a size or the width of a garment hanging from clips may not show usable waist room.
